Social Computing

We are looking for a motivated student to join the Affective Computing Group (ACG) at German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) as a Student Research Assistant (Hiwi). The ACG works on developing systems with which people can interact with virtual characters. These systems are aimed at realizing the principles of human-human interaction in a virtual character setting.

The main responsibilities of the Research Assistant will include developing tools, setting up systems to conduct studies, and organizing collected data for machine learning.

Requirements:

• Currently in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Computer Science, or a related field.

• Experience in programming languages such as Java and Python.

• Familiarity with human-computer interaction and machine learning concepts.

• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

• Strong communication skills in English. German skills would be a bonus.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Java development: Familiarity with gradle, Javalin and web development concepts.

• Completed courses such as Social Computing, Software Engineering, Programming, Elements of Machine Learning, Neural Networks: Theory and Implementation, High Level Computer Vision.
 

This position will offer a great opportunity for the student to gain experience in research, development of machine learning applications, and potentially lead to a thesis project. You can also take over tutoring responsibilities for future lectures.

Please be punctual as we will be moving from our office to a different room (that is harder to find ) together!

What do I need to bring?
1) Your student ID and personal ID
2) A non-erasable pen (no pencils or other pens that can be erased)

Can I take part although I did not register for the exam? No, you can only take part if you registered via LSF (or in some special cases via email to Mirella Hladký)

Can I cheat? NO!

• A technical error that did not allow Media Informatics students to register in LSF has been fixed! You can now register.

Attention, Monday people! Next week, Tutorial 1 and 2 will be joined and both take place on Wednesday (Feb 1st) at 10am in room 0.14 (E1 3)!
Unfortunately, your Monday tutor Leon is sick, which means Monday people will turn into Wednesday people, meaning they have to join the Wednesday tutorial held by Anna.

On Jan 26th and Feb 2nd you will get your final dose of new input. This time about Systems of Social Computing by the amazing Dr. Patrick Gebhard!
On Feb 9th is your final lecture appointment where your tutors will give you a quick summary and there will be a Q&A session where you can ask anything you're still unsure about.
We want you to be optimally prepared for the exam - so don't miss those last appointments and don't hesitate to ask any questions in the Q&A, in the forum or via email to your tutor!

Register for the exam on LSF now!

Due to overlapping exams we had to move the original exam date. The aforementioned dates are final.
Anyone can take part in the re-exam, independent on whether you have taken part in the main exam or not.
If you take part in both: The better grade will be your final grade.

Good news: Only 2 more exericse sheets!
Jan 12th: Submit your filled sheet 4 and collect your pre-last exercise sheet 5.
Jan 19th: Submit your filled sheet 5 and collect your last exercise sheet 6.
Jan 26th: Submit exercise sheet 6 and done (except for the exam but that'll be easy since you were a good student and filled your exercise sheets ).
Don't forget to attend your weekly tutorials in person to discuss the exercise sheets and prepare for the exam with your tutor! Tutorials start again from Jan 16th/18th and last till Feb 6th/8th!

On 12th and 19th of January, the wonderful Dr. Janet Weßler (psychologist) will tell you all about how to design and conduct experiments!
For you as computer scientists, it is a rare opportunity to learn how to do studies (properly) - so don't miss it!
(maybe those topics are relevant for the exam )
