Hi all,

we hope that your project work has started well and that you are making good progress.

To support you in cases where your personal systems may not be sufficiently powerful for VR development—or if you simply wish to test your applications within our lab environment—we are providing access to a shared, dedicated VR-capable PC in our lab located in the DFKI building. To ensure fair and transparent usage among all three groups, access will be organized via a forum-based scheduling system.

Procedure for Lab Access

Please follow the steps below carefully:

  1. Initial Onboarding (mandatory):
Before your first lab session, each group must book an appointment with Felix (using this link) to arrange a short onboarding appointment. During this session, we will introduce you to the lab setup, safety guidelines, and usage procedures.

  2. Booking via Forum (First-Come, First-Served):
Access to the VR PC is organized exclusively through this dedicated forum thread: LAB SCHEDULING

    • Each group must post their intended time slot in the thread.
    • Time slots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, determined by the timestamp of the post.
    • Please ensure that your requested slot does not overlap with already booked times and be considerate with respect to the duration of your booking. Only book for as long as you really need (max. 3h) to allow other groups to book the room as well.
  3. Lab Opening Hours and Location:
The lab is located in the DFKI building and can only be accessed during official opening hours:

    • Monday to Friday (Mo–Fr)
    • 09:00 – 17:00
Bookings outside these hours are not permitted.
  4. Responsibility for Clarity:
Clearly specify your group and the exact time window to avoid ambiguity. If conflicts arise due to unclear posts, priority will still be determined by the earliest clearly interpretable reservation.

  5. Cancellations / Changes:
If you no longer need your reserved slot, please update your forum post accordingly to make the time available to others.

Forum Post Template

Please use the following template when reserving a time slot:

Group: [Group Name]
Date: [YYYY-MM-DD]
Time: [Start Time – End Time, e.g., 14:00–16:00]
Purpose: [Optional: brief description, e.g., testing VR interaction]

We kindly ask all groups to adhere to this procedure to ensure fair and efficient usage of the lab resources. Should you have any questions or encounter issues, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Best regards,
The AR4Sports Seminar Team

Hi everyone,

thanks to all of you for filling our your profiles in time. I went ahead and assigned you in team groupings, trying my best to setup sensible teams. Please have a look in the CMS and let me know if you see them or not.

Please meet with your group as early as possible. It would be good to reach out to us early with your initial project idea BEFORE the concept presentation so you can stay on track and aligned with the goals of the seminar.

Seminar: Augmented Reality for Sports

In this practical seminar, small groups of students (4) will develop an Augmented Reality (AR) sports application. These applications will either target athletes or spectators as users and aim to solve a certain problem. Both, targeted sport, stake holder, and problem to be solved will be defined in the first weeks of the seminar within the groups with the assistance of the instructors.
