Mathematics Preparatory Course

Mathematics Preparatory Course

The Mathematics Preparatory Course takes place from the 07.09. - 02.10.

The precourse is no official part of Programming 1 but is highly recommended.
It is organized by volunteers.

Programming 1

The lecture introduces the core concepts of programming. More specifically, it deals with data structures and algorithms, programming constructs and programming techniques, as well as the structure and realization of programming languages. While doing so, it introduces the functional programming language OCaml.

We do not assume any programming knowledge.

Literature & Tools

The up-to-date lecture notes, exercises, and additional material will be linked under the materials tab as the course progresses.
Further Resources are linked under Resources & Tools.

Organization

All dates are in the timetable.

There are two in-person lectures per week. Additionally, you will be assigned a tutor who helps you learn in a 2h tutorial per week.
At the start of the tutorial will be short tests to give you feedback on your current knowledge.

We offer Office Hours multiple time a week as an optional offer.
These slots are there to talk to tutors and other students in a relaxed environment.
If you are unsure if they are helpful, come here and try them out at least once.

For exam admission, 50% of the test points have to be achieved and the midterm has to be passed.
There will be two exams with a retake each. Between an exam and its retake, only the better one counts.
You can write both. (The final exam, taking both exams, will be two examination attempts if not excepted by the Freiversuch according to the examination regulation).
In December, we have a Midterm with a retake in January.
After the semester, we have a final exam with a retake a few weeks afterward.
The exact dates will be announced in the future and will be entered in the timetable.

The final grade of the course is computed out of the Midterm and Endterm points.

Further details will be discussed in the first lecture.
