Exam admission requirements

This is a reply to the feedback posted on 4 November.
The grading/exam admission system we have adopted is - by intention - similar to that for Prog 1, and is designed to ensure that students engage with the material. I appreciate that mathematics is not your first love, but the material in this lecture course really is necessary for your studies. And I actually think that 120 points just for turning up and giving one or two short presentations (on material that you have to study anyway) during the whole semester is really quite generous. Last semester's system led to many students not coming to tutorials at all and failing the exam, and we can no longer accept that.
I do however accept that there may be a small number of students with part-time jobs who have difficulty in attending tutorials. I would ask any students in this category to contact me - we can certainly arrange a flexible online tutorial or even a one-to-one meeting with me in place of the tutorial.
