The Tutor Didactics Seminar is targeted towards first-time tutors who haven't yet participated in a didactics seminar. For organizational reasons, it is limited to 16 participants.

Tutor Didactics Seminar

Overview

Apart from technical knowledge, being a tutor also requires skills in communication and didactics. This soft-skill seminar helps first-time tutors acquire these skills. Topics discussed in the seminar include (but are not limited to) tasks and responsibilities of being a tutor, learning theory, teaching methods, time management and grading. Apart from that, the seminar aims to improve explanation and presentation skills.

The seminar is planned to be very interactive with a lot of personal feedback. To allow for such a setting, the seminar is limited to 16 participants. Please do not register if you already attended or will attend another tutor didactics seminar!

FAQ

I am a PhD Student and am going to be a teaching assistant. Can I attend the seminar?

Large parts of the seminar are specifically for giving a tutorial. If you are also going to give a tutorial and have no teaching experience, it might be helpful for you to attend the seminar. However, please note that our instructors are experienced tutors, but have not been teaching assistants and might therefore not be able to help you with questions that are specific to TA-ing.

The seminar takes place during the first week of lectures. What if I want to visit a lecture or tutorial during the seminar time?

If you need to visit a lecture and the lecture is not recorded, you can do so. However, this will be an intense seminar and missing a session means missing an important exercise or lesson, thus we expect you to prioritize the seminar whenever possible.
