On the exam, you are allowed to have a cheat sheet:

  • Handwritten only
  • A4 format, both sides

The main purpose of a cheat sheet is to help you remember and structure course material. Therefore, we only accept handwritten cheat sheets.

It is good practice to think about the topics you find most challenging. Start preparing the cheat sheet in advance. Make several drafts of the cheat sheet and think carefully about its structure.  Do not try to make an exhaustive outline of the whole course — A4 format is not enough for that anyway.

Make sure that the information on the cheat sheet is structured and it is easy to find (which is extremely important given the limited time you have on the exam).

Hello students,

I am currently in the process of joining those groups that only have 1 or 2 members. I am considering everybody, who is in an assignment group and everybody that handed in something for the first assignment.

For those of you, who have not handed in anything yet: If you want to take the course for credit, get in touch with me instantly (emilia@lst.uni-saarland.de), such that I can assign you to a group in time for the second assignment. Everybody, who missed the first assignment deadline has to pass all remaining sheets in order to be admitted to the exam.

This does not apply to students that were admitted to the exam in earlier years, they do not have to join a team and hand in exercise sheets.

Dear students of StatR,

you have been assigned to a tutorial group. We recommend you looking for team mates within these groups in order for your assignment being graded by your own tutor.

This week, the tutorials will mainly be there to help you with technical issues (installation of RStudio, signing in to datacamp, joining TEAMS group etc.) and to give you a chance of finding team mates for the first assignment.

Only for students, who were assigned to tutorial 2, 3, or 4:

Unfortunately, we did not configure cms to distinguish between online and on campus tutorials, which take place in the same slot. Please check, whether you got your preference with regard to online/offline. If not, get in contact and we will switch students where possible.

There are two kinds of exercises: datacamp courses and our own exercise sheets.

The DataCamp exercises will be given each week, access will be available for you after signing up (see Materials section for details).

Our own sheets will be available on this site each week after the lecture. They are always due on Sunday night. Please form assignment groups of 3 students and hand in together. For the first sheet, it is possible to hand in individually. All students that are not part of an assignment group will be grouped by us on November 7, but please try finding partners for the first sheet already, you can use the forum.

To be admitted to the exam:
- DataCamp: you need to do all DataCamp exercises on time.
- Our sheets (PDFs or R files): you can miss one complete sheet without excuses. If you are ill and have to miss 2 or more sheets, please contact us.
A whole sheet is counted as completed only if you made a good attempt to solve each question or if you at least formulated why you couldn't solve it and what you have tried.

We are following two books:

  • Learning statistics with R: A tutorial for psychology students and other beginners by Danielle Navarro
  • Statistical Methods for Psychology by David C. Howell

This class is supported by DataCamp, which allows students to take online classes with automatic code correction for learning R, Python and SQL.
The courses combine short expert videos and hands-on-the-keyboard exercises.
