Everyone interested in taking part in the re-exam inspection (even those, who were registered before) must register with one of the new slots until 21.09.2021.

The inspection will take place at E1.3 HS002 on Thursday, 5th of August, 2021, starting at 1PM.

It is required that you register for the inspection in CMS (we offer different time slots). We will only bring exams to the inspection from those students who are registered! 

Be aware that registration closes on Monday, 2th of August 2021. Afterwards, we need to inform the University about how many people will attend the exam inspection. Hence, late registration is NOT possible!

Exam preparation:

  • We have uploaded a practice exam to CMS (materials section). This should help you to prepare for the exam. Notice, that this is a shorter version of an exam. Usually, there will be at least one exercise per topic. 
  • Prof. Krüger will go through the practice exam during his Live Rehearsal & Questions lecture on June 30th. Afterwards, you can ask lecture specific questions.
  • We have also reserved three tutorials, where you can ask questions about lecture topics (or you can still seek advise for your project).
  • In addition, we may also offer an office-hour in case you find this helpful.

2)     The presentation is mandatory, but not grated!

3)     Briefly explain what you want to implement (not details – stick to the 2mins!).

4)     Based on the feedback you receive (from your tutor and other students in your tutorial) you can revise your concept document before submitting it (Deadline: May 30th).  

 

We do this to make this course more interactive and furthermore, to help you getting started early on. Further, this will ensure that your project goals are not too ambitious. We will check the concept documents and provide feedback on your execution plan.

Participants need to be *right-handed* with normal or corrected-to-normal vision.

The study will take place in *Turing 1* *at the DFKI.

 

*Time:*

The study will take start on Monday 17.05.

To make scheduling easier, there are 4 slots available per day:

 * Slot #1: 10:00 – 11:00

First of all, we are very happy to announce that we can provide a hardware kit for all students on the waiting list!

Below, you can find the final instructions for the hardware pickup on Monday, May 3rd. Please read them carefully.

 

  1. If you missed submitting the rental agreement, you can still participate in the course by purchasing the hardware yourselves. Late submissions are NOT possible due to organizational reasons.
  2. If you show-up to the hardware pickup but you haven’t submitted the rental agreement you will NOT be given a kit.
  3. Please come to the hardware pickup in your time slot (see Kick-off slides). We do not expect much waiting time.
  4. Please have your student ID card at hand.
  5. Please wait at the square in front of Mensa (keep distance). The tutor will indicate that she is ready for the next student. Show your ID card to the tutor, she will double-check your name with our list. Then you may collect a kit. The entire process will be executed contact free.
  6. Please avoid queuing-up or waiting in groups. Leave the area as soon as you received your hardware kit. 
  7. You must wear a mask!

based on your feedback and many questions we received, we decided to slightly modify the hardware rental program.

 

Students who are eligible (no changes):

Only students from the following subjects are (by default) eligible for the hardware rental:

1) Media informatics (B.Sc.) since it is a mandatory (core) lecture for them.

2) BSc/MSc Computer Science (Advanced Lecture)

3) MSc Embedded Systems (Advanced Lecture)

4) MSc Entrep. Cypersecurity (Advanced Lecture)

5) Media informatics (M.Sc.). If you have not taken it as part of your B.Sc. (either because you have been at another university, or you were enrolled in a B.Sc. program other than Media Informatics). (Advanced Lecture)

 

If you want to rent the hardware, and you belong to one of the above-mentioned subjects, it is required that you submit the rental agreement until April 30th.

 

Students who are not eligible (updates):

There is a chance that we have some hardware kits left over. We will distribute them to the remaining students on a random basis.

Please be aware that you are not guaranteed a hardware kit, and in case you still need to purchase it afterwards, you will most likely get the hardware too late for ex. 2 and the “Introduction to Arduino” course. Therefore, we recommend buying one yourselves or at least having one kit per project team, so that you can follow along. 

 

 

We apologize for any inconvenience caused, but we were honestly surprised by the number of students who registered for the course. That being said, we are very happy that so many people are interested in the topic, and we’ll try to support you in any way possible.

we assigned you to the different tutorial slots. We tried our best to avoid conflicts; however, please check whether the date/time works for you. In case there is something wrong, please get in touch with your respective tutor.

  1. You can now also register your project team in CMS. If you have difficulties finding a project partner, check out the discord server. Registration due May 3rd.
  2. Students who want to rent the course hardware from us can now download and submit the rental agreement in CMS (due April 30th). Please verify if you are eligible for the hardware rental i.e., the lecture is either mandatory or counts as an advanced lecture for you (see Kick-off slides). In doubt? – Please see your curriculum or talk to your examination office. In case you can use this lecture as free credits, we unfortunately cannot provide the course hardware. Thus, do not submit the agreement.

Project concept presentation: Week of May 24, 2021 in tutorials (1-2min)

Project concept deadline: May 30, 2021, 23:59PM (submission through CMS)

Project presentation: July 21, 2021 (submit document until July 20th, 2021 - 23:59PM)

Exam: July 28, 2021, 10:00am - 11:30am

Re-Exam: September 1, 2021, 10:00am - 11:30am

 

Registration

It is mandatory for all participants to register (in CMS) before or on April 17th 2021 (23:59PM).

  • Students of Media informatics B.Sc.: no restriction. Note that this lecture replaces Ubiquitous Media; i.e., you cannot attend this lecture if you have previously completed Ubiquitous Media.
  • Students of Media informatics M.Sc.: you can enroll in this class if you have not taken it as part of your B.Sc. (either because you have been at another university, or you were enrolled in a BSc program other than Media Informatics). If you have taken the course “Ubiquitous Media Design” previously, then you cannot take this course.
  • Students of Computer science: from summer term 2020, the lecture counts as an Advanced Lecture for Bachelor/Master Computer Science, Embedded Systems and Entrep. Cypersecurity. Please refer to LSF for details on the curriculae, and version of exam.
  • Students of Other curricula: Decision on a case-by-case basis. Please contact Martin Feick for further information.

 

Important: Later in the semester, a few weeks before the exam, you have to register for the exam on HISPOS. The registration must be made no later than one week before the exam.

 

Note on transfer of credit from previous semesters:

  • “I have successfully completed the exercises and projects of IAS in summer term 20, but have not passed the final exam. Can I just write the exam?”
    Yes you can transfer your exercises and projects from IAS in summer term 20 to IAS in summer term 21, so you do not have to hand in exercises and project assignments a second time. 
  • You cannot transfer partial grades from previous IAS lectures.

 

Description

This course introduces technical concepts, software paradigms and hardware technologies of modern interactive systems. Their application is illustrated using seminal and recent examples from graphical user interfaces, mobile interfaces, ubiquitous computing (internet of things), augmented reality, and physical interfaces.
