Hi,

As on some of the machines there were problems with loading the vocab file, we have published a new fix on upstream with a new vocab file and a few lines of code to fix it. You can either merge upstream to your fork again, or view the changes here and apply them manually (and also download the new vocab_fixed.pickle from upstream). You can also refer to this forum post. If you didn't have any problems with previous pickle file, you don't have to do anything.

We also added a slight clarification to documentation on `captioning/cnn.py`.

Since the error might have caused you extra time, we extend the deadline for Assignment 4 by 1 day (until Friday, June 23, 23:59 CEST). Please keep the project timeline in mind as well.

Feel free to get in touch in case of further questions/errors! Your questions also help us improve the assignment for next iterations!

Dear all,

The repositories for submitting the assignments have now been created. You should be able to access them at https://gitlab.cs.uni-saarland.de/hlcv/ss23/teamN, where N is your team number in the CMS. Please note that your assignment solutions need to pushed to your own team repository, not to the upstream repository.

Some of the students did not submit their GitLab username or submitted an invalid username, and so would not yet have access to their repositories. Please check and submit a valid username so we can provide you access, by April 28. For example, if your account URL is https://gitlab.cs.uni-saarland.de/xyz, then your username is xyz.

You might not have received access also if you submitted your username but did not form a team of at least two students. In this case, please form teams of at least two as soon as possible in the CMS, latest by April 28. The forum can be used to find teammates, or alternatively, if you would like us to assign you to a team, please let us know by writing to hlcv-ss23@lists.mpi-inf.mpg.de.

Hi all,

We will be using GitLab for the assignments this year. Each team will be provided a repository at https://gitlab.cs.uni-saarland.de where we will push the code for the assignment problems, and the teams would complete the assignment by submitting their code to the repository. Further details will be provided in the first tutorial.

In order to create these repositories, please check that you have an account on https://gitlab.cs.uni-saarland.de, or create an account at https://sam.sic.saarland/users/student_signup/. In most cases you should already have an account with the same username as your university email username (you might have to reset your password).

Once this is done, please provide your account username in the CMS at https://cms.sic.saarland/hlcvss23/students/view#note5 by April 24, 2023.

Thanks and Regards,
Sukrut Rao

Hi all,

The course this year will be conducted in-person and the lectures and tutorials will not be recorded. However, as an additional reference, after each lecture we will provide the recording of the closest related lecture (if one exists) from HLCV 2022. These will be made available in the Materials section in the CMS: https://cms.sic.saarland/hlcvss23/materials/

Please note however that the contents of the lectures this year may substantially differ from those of last year. We would also likely have lectures covering completely new topics that were not covered last year, for which no related recording exists.

So the recordings will not cover all topics and should only be used as an additional reference, and we recommend that you attend all the lectures.

Thanks and Regards,

Sukrut Rao

High-Level Computer Vision

Overview

This course will cover essential techniques for high-level computer vision. These techniques facilitate semantic interpretation of visual data, as it is required for a broad range of applications like robotics, driver assistance, multi-media retrieval, surveillance, etc. In this area, the recognition and detection of objects, activities, and visual categories have seen dramatic progress over the last decade. We will discuss the methods that have led to a state-of-the-art performance in this area and provide the opportunity to gather hands-on experience with these techniques.
