Dear students,

Due to COVID-19, the inspection on Monday afternoon needs to be organized somewhat differently than before COVID-19. In particular, you will need to register for an inspection slot and are only allowed to show up and inspect your exam during this slot. The registration for the inspection slots will open after we have finished correction, probably in the end of this week. We will post a news indicating the opening of the registration. Dear students,

if you attend the second exam on Monday, please read this news carefully. It includes many rules and organizational information that will be important to smoothly run the exam.

Pre-exam/general information:

  • The exam will take 2 hours.
  • The exam will have enough empty pages to write the solution on, no need to bring your own paper.
  • You are not allowed to use a pocket calculator (nor any other electronic device).
  • Remember to bring your student ID.
  • Start time is 2pm, the rooms will be open from around 1:45pm. Please be on time!
  • Make sure you know the room and seat that you are placed in. You can find this information on your CMS status page.
  • Please enter the exam rooms only by the doors indicated on the following map: https://cms.sic.saarland/ai_21/dl/118/Exam_Room_Entrances.pdf
  • Please do not form big crowds in front of the exam room entrances to ensure the required safety distance.
  • Wear your mask when entering the exam room.

During the exam:

  • We will check your student IDs before the exam will actually start. We do so because you will still have to have your mask on during this process, so it hopefully leads to less distraction during the exam.
  • In case you have a question, or need to go to the washroom, during the exam, please signal (raise your hand) and wait until we approach you. In both cases, you will need to wear your mask.

After the exam:

  • When the time is up, stop writing immediately, and keep seated. If you keep writing, the page of your exam you were still writing on will not be corrected.

  • We will ask you to come to the front one-by-one (including all your belongings!), please wait for your turn. You will drop the exam in a box and leave the room.

Dear students,

we decided to offer a couple of additional tutorials in the last lecture week, in favour of the "exam preparation lecture", as a preparation for the exams.

We will offer two of these additional tutorials for every of the following topics:

  • Agents & Search & Knowledge Representation & Machine Learning
  • Adversarial Search & Propositional Logic & Predicate Logic & Clause Learning
  • Constraint Satisfaction Problems & Planning & Probabilistic Reasoning

Please check the calendar for the individual tutorial slots.

In these tutorials, the tutors will present the solutions of additional exercises covering the respective topics. After that, more importantly, there is time for you to ask questions about the topics covered in the tutorial.

To be able to better organise the tutorials, we ask you to post your questions in the new category of the forum (Additional Tutorials for Exam Preparation). We have already added one thread per topic in the category. Please only use this thread to ask your questions. You can also suggest types of exercises you want to see more examples of.

Deadline for questions and exercise suggestions is Friday (July 16), 4pm.

The exercises presented in the tutorials will be the same for both slots covering the same topics.

Although we allocate two hours for each of the tutorials. The tutors are instructed to finish the tutorials early if there are no more questions from your side. Thus, be on time and familiarise yourself with the topics before attending the tutorial. That way, you will be able to get the most out of it.

You will find a link to the tutorials in the CMS calendar in due time.

Dear students,

To help you prepare for the exam, we provide all the previous quizzes of the theoretical sheets for you again as practice. This way you do not see your solution to the questions immediately. You can find these quizzes in Moodle at the bottom of the course page: https://lms.sulb.uni-saarland.de/moodle/course/view.php?id=4836
The questions are identical to the quizzes of the theoretical sheets and are only voluntary. You cannot improve or worsen your scores for the theoretical sheets by taking these quizzes. After submitting a quiz you are able to see the correction of your submission immediately. You can attend a quiz as often as you like.

Furthermore, we recommend using the chatbot (https://aiden.cs.uni-saarland.de/ Name: aiden, Password: ai-ch4tbot) for the exam preparation of the topics covered by Prof. Koehler. We created a new version of the chatbot for you and improved the search for slides (and keywords like “agent function”) to support you, if you have problems with a term or you simply want to listen to a specific topic again. Moreover, the chatbot is now also available in German.

We wish you good look at the exam.

Dear students,

We are currently organizing rooms and supervision for the first exam. We have a very large course this year and need many rooms to distribute the students due to the pandemic and the university's hygiene concept. But due to travel restrictions, we have no information about how many students will be able to attend the exam. To get an impression, we have created a poll in the forum.

We know that you cannot finally answer whether you will be able to come to Saarbrücken, just answer the question to the best of your current knowledge and belief.

Please go to the forum and answer the poll. You must answer no later than Sunday (May 23).

Best regards,
Daniel Höller

Dear students,

There is an increasing number of technical problems with Moodle on weekends. Since neither Moodle support nor we are available to help you with any issues on the weekends, we are moving the submission of future theoretical sheets forward to Fridays at 4 pm. As usual, you will find the exact dates on the sheets that will be uploaded to the CMS.
Keep in mind that in previous years students always had 7 days to finish the theoretical exercise sheets, and their length or difficulty has not increased this year. So, despite us moving the deadline forward you will still have more than enough time to complete the assignments.

Dear students,

We have now assigned the tutorials. If you log in to the CMS you can find your tutorial on the "personal status" page.

Forming Groups
You can now start/proceed forming groups. Please do so by using the forum. All members of a group need to be in the same tutorial. You do not need to mail the group members to anybody (the tutors or me). Please write them down on the solutions you hand in (as specified on the exercise sheets). You can start working in your new group right away.

Changing Tutorials
You can change your tutorial if and only if you find somebody who wants to swap the group with you. So if you want e.g. to be in Tutorial 3 and are in Tutorial 2, please go to the forum and find somebody who is in Tutorial 3 and wants to be in Tutorial 2. Then write a single e-mail per swap to me (Daniel Höller). Please use the following template and put the student you want to swap with in CC:

mail subject:
Changing Tutorials

mail content:
Full Name 1    from    Tutorial A    to    Tutorial B
Full Name 2    from    Tutorial B    to    Tutorial A

Dear students,

As mentioned in the lecture on Thursday, the first exercise sheet has now been published. This exercise sheet is completely integrated in Moodle. You can work on it until midnight on 25th of April. More information can be found on the first sheet (CMS in the "Materials" section). Any quizzes in Moodle must always be submitted by every student individually. The groups do not matter here although you are allowed to discuss the questions with others.

Since all members of the group must however be assigned to the same tutorial, you should wait forming groups until you are assigned to a tutorial. This will be done on Monday. More information about the submission groups will follow once you have been assigned to your tutorials.

Artificial Intelligence

This course offers a general introduction into the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), its history, key assumptions, paradigms, concepts, and fundamental methods. Students learn to master and apply techniques developed in the fields of intelligent agents, search algorithms and game playing, knowledge representation, logical reasoning and deduction, planning, constraint reasoning, machine learning, and reasoning under uncertainty. We explain how and when these methods work and for which problem classes they are suitable to successfully build AI systems. With the knowledge acquired in this course, students are well-prepared to successfully attend the many special lectures on AI offered at UdS or to write their Bachelor or Master thesis in the field of AI.
