Natural Computing and Algorithms

In this lecture, we will look at nature through the lens of theoretical computer science. In particular, we'll see

• Algorithms in nature and algorithms inspired by nature (eg. Slime Mould Foraging, Evolutionary Algorithms)
• Computing beyond conventional hardware (eg. DNA Computing)
• Natural processes as computational processes (eg. Bird Flocking, Biological Evolution)

• Wednesday, 12:25 - 14:00, E1.3, HS III (Room 003.1)
• First lecture: Wednesday, October 14

This is an advanced lecture of 3 Credit Points. There will be no tutorials.
 

Exams:

There will be oral exams at the end of the semester.

The exams can be at any time between the last week of the lecture period and end of April (provided that I am available).

 

Recommended Prerequisites:

Algorithms & Data Structures and Theoretical Computer Science (or equivalent)
