The results of the second exam can now be found on your personal status page. Please note that due to a bug in the CMS, the exam statistics are heavily biased since a lot of no-shows are displayed as 0 points/5.0. The true failure rate is <10%. If you have not been registered in LSF, you will not get a 5.0, even if it is shown on your status page. The statistics for the individual assignments are correct.

The inspection for the second exam takes place on Tuesday, 06.10. between 13 and 15. Please register until Monday, 05.10., on your personal CMS page if you wish to participate. You will receive an individual time slot and more information after the end of the registration period.

Dear students,

this is a friendly (final) reminder to register in LSF if you want to take part in the exam. This is a hard requirement (unless LSF registration is not possible for you, e.g. as an Erasmus student.)

If you are already registered in LSF, you see the current registration snapshot of today, 08.07. reflected on your personal student page. I have also registered those who notified me separately and don't have LSF access. If you think you should be registered, but it does not show in CMS, please contact LSF support/your responsible study coordination/examination office and also send a message to me.

There will be no lecture on Thursday, 09.07. The remaining time in the semester is your opportunity for exam preparation. We will support you in this preparation with the final tutorial where you can discuss the self-test and in a final Q&A session next week, which will also contain a short teaser on video compression. Please vote on particify to decide on which day this Q&A should take place until Thursday, 09.07.

In the materials section you also find the beta version of a new question generator that might be useful if you want to train arithmetic coding before the exam. If the concept is well-received, I will add such generators for other assignment types in future iterations of the lecture.

Final reminder: Please take part in the Qualis evaluation if you have not done so already. The links in the material section are only valid until Sunday, 05.07.2026.

Your feedback is important to us and for future generations of students. Many changes in the lecture have been implemented based on student feedback, so please tell use where you see possible improvements. Beyond that, it is also a way to acknowledge what you appreciated about the lecture, which keeps us motivated. :-)

As previously announced, I will host a feedback meeting in which you are invited to informally discuss your impressions of the lecture. What works well? What could be improved? This does not replace the QUALIS evaluation. It is is an additional offer to make your voice directly heard (or to just eat a few snacks and chat a bit).

In order to allow as many of you to participate, I have launched a poll in our usual particify room to find the best time slot in the upcoming week. Please mark your preferences until Friday morning, 10:00. Multiple selections are possible.

Moreover, the date change for the second exam which I already hinted at early in the semester has been confirmed. The second exam has been shifted slightly to 2.10.26 to avoid collisions with other VC lectures (see updated dates on the main CMS page and in the SIC exam calendar).

next week we are back to our standard schedule again. However, there are two more weeks this semester that are affected by holidays.

Dear students,

due to the holiday on 14.05., there will be no IC lecture in the corresponding slot.

To compensate for that, we will switch to inverted classroom for the coming week as an experiment. This means:

• Please watch the video for Unit 05 before attending our regular Monday meeting (same time, same place as always).
• In the Monday meeting, I will give a short slide walkthrough, but only as a reminder, not as a full lecture.
• We will have pariticify questions during that session.
• The full remainder of the time is your opportunity to ask *any questions* you might have about Unit 05 or any other lecture content.

For the past five iterations of IC, this has been the standard lecture mode. This is a good opportunity to see how you like this alternative lecture mode compared to the more traditional lecture style.

Since we will have a similar situation three times this semester, I will give you the opportunity to vote on several different solutions after the format switch.

Dear students,

the lecture kicks off on Thursday, 09.04., 16:15 with the introductory session, which is dedicated to an overview, the learning goals, and organisational issues.
Note that the lecture hall has changed to Lecture Hall 001 in E1.3 for all meetings throughout the whole semester.

In the second week of the semester we start with Unit 01. All of the lecture materials except for the assignments are already available for download on the CMS.
