DESCRIPTION:\nAbstract:\nIf you measure success by the number of deployment
s\, SQLite dominates the\ndatabase world. There are more instances of SQLi
te running today than all\nother database engines combined. Why is this?
How did SQLite come to be\nso widely used? What makes SQLite different?
\n\nThis talk attempts to answer those questions by reviewing the unusual
\ndesign and implementation choices in SQLite\, and showing how those\ncho
ices make SQLite well suited for mobile phones\, appliances\,\napplication
s\, and the 'internet of things' where SQLite is often found.\nThe talk wi
ll delve into SQLite's use of bytecode\, the techniques used\nto achieve A
 CID power-safe transactions\, and the query planning\nalgorithms.\n\nThis
talk is targeted toward listeners who are familiar with\nother database im
plementations\, but it also accessible to people with\nonly a general comp
uter programming background and who just want to\nknow more about how an S
QL database engine works behind the scenes.\n\n\nShort Bio:\nRichard Hipp
is an entrepreneur based in Charlotte\, NC\, USA\, and the founder\nand le
ad developer for SQLite as well as several other open-source projects.\nHe
has been an invited speaker at universities around the world\, including
 \nMIT\, Harvard\, CMU\, NYU\, IIT Kharagpur\, Politechnika Gdańska\, and o
thers.\n\nRichard never intended to become a 'database guy'. His PhD diss
 ertation \n(Duke University\, 1992) was in computational linguistics\, and
his\nundergraduate studies were in electrical engineering and digital sig
nal\nprocessing. Because he did not come up inside the database community
\, \nRichard brings a different perspective to database design\, implement
ation\,\nand usage.\n\nWhen he isn't sitting at the keyboard writing code
(his usual habitat)\, \nRichard can often be found out on long-distance ru
ns or cooking vegetarian\nmeals with his wife\, Ginger.
